Design Thinking- From Wild Idea to Wearable (ACPM)

May 22, 2018 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

About the Session

Design thinking is essentially the use of empathy and creativity to create better outcomes for stakeholders. In this interactive session, you’ll step through the process of design thinking with example topics from health and wellness. Alex Cowan, faculty at UVa’s Darden School of Business, Coursera instructor, and Design-Thinking expert, will guide participants in how innovative concepts journey from thought to paper to reality. We’ll move and create on the fly and learn how intuitive design guides the creation of the products we all know and love today. Participants will leave this interactive workshop able to formulate problem scenarios, storyboard customer journeys, and create workable propositions to use in testing solutions.

Learning Objectives:
– Separate an idea into problem vs. solution exploration in order to apply design thinking
– Formulate problem scenarios or ‘jobs to be done’ and pair them with alternatives to make sure you’ve defined an actionable problem
– Storyboard customer journeys in order to increase specificity, continuity, and detail
– Formulate testable propositions to use in testing solutions with prototypes and minimum viable products (MVP’s)
